Band to Celebrate Milestone by Giving Away Free Tickets with Purchase of New DVD at Tower Records Sunset Strip Signing on August 18th at 7pm

Los Angeles, Calif., & San Francisco, Calif. - Seminal punk rock band Dead Kennedys announced today that they will celebrate their 25th Anniversary with a show at the Key Club in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 19th, 2003. Opening for Dead Kennedys will be punk legends, Dr. Know.

To further celebrate a quarter century as a band, Dead Kennedys will take part in a DVD signing at TOWER RECORDS SUNSET STRIP (8601 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA) on Monday August 18th at 7pm. Original band members, East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride and D.H. Peligro will be signing copies of their latest DVD, IN GOD WE TRUST, INC. – THE LOST TAPES, recently released by Music Video Distributors. The first 100 fans to purchase the DVD at the signing will also receive a complimentary ticket to the 25th Anniversary Key Club show the following night.

"It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 25 years since we played our very first show at the legendary Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco on July 19, 1978,” said Dead Kennedys bassist Klaus Flouride. "We never thought we would be here 25 years later, headlining the Key Club with a brand new DVD of archival footage, which is something our fans are going to love.”

“Since getting our catalog back in 2001 and reissuing & remastering it on Manifesto Records, we also came across a lot of material we didn’t even remember existed,” said Dead Kennedys guitarist, East Bay Ray. “IN GOD WE TRUST, INC. – THE LOST TAPES is a great document of the original recording of this record. This DVD has some amazing footage of us recording the original EP.”

DEAD KENNEDYS: IN GOD WE TRUST, INC. – THE LOST TAPES captures the band in Subterranean Studios recording the original version of their EP masterpiece, IN GOD WE TRUST, INC., recordings which have not seen the light of day until now. The video includes full-length versions of every song including some “making of” footage and banter between bandmates. In addition to the studio recordings, each song from the album has an alternate live version.

Available July 22, 2003 on DVD and VHS Through Music Video Distributors

Oaks, PA – In celebration of the DK’s 25th anniversary, Music Video Distributors and Decay Music are pleased to announce the home viewing release of Dead Kennedys: In God We Trust Inc. - The Lost Tapes for worldwide distribution on DVD and VHS.

On June 19th, 1981, Dead Kennedys recorded the EP In God We Trust, Inc. at Subterranean Studios (San Francisco). When they went to master the recording, the tapes began to peel and deteriorate. Consequently, the band had to re-record the entire EP, and did so at Mobius Studios (San Francisco) on August 22nd, 1981. It is the version recorded at Mobius that was used for the final EP release and gained international acclaim and notoriety. The original version recorded at Subterranean has never seen the light of day. Until now...

Dead Kennedys: In God We Trust, Inc. - The Lost Tapes captures the band in Subterranean Studios recording their masterpiece, and includes full-length versions of every song including some “making of” footage, and banter between bandmates. The master audio tapes have been "baked" (a process that restores aging or damaged analog tape), resulting in a magnificent audio visual documentation of Dead Kennedys recording a landmark album.

In addition to the studio recordings, each song from the album has an alternate live version. The live footage spans their career, from a 1979 performance of We've Got a Bigger Problem Now through a performance in 1986 of Moral Majority.

07.18.03 - Dead Kennedys Announce Line-Up Change

Lead Singer Brandon Cruz Exits Band, Vocal Duties to be Handled By Jeff Penalty

Los Angeles, Calif., & San Francisco, Calif. - Seminal punk rock band Dead Kennedys announced today that via mutual decision, lead singer Brandon Cruz will exit the band and vocal duties will now be handled by former Vaz Hoil & Stupid Ferrets member Jeff Penalty. Penalty toured with Dead Kennedys for their first-ever tour of Norway in May 2003.

Brandon Cruz joined Dead Kennedys in September 2001 after the band regained control of their back catalog and released it on Manifesto Records. Cruz has toured extensively with the band over the past two years including first ever stops in Japan and Russia. He will continue to sing for his original band, Nardcore legends, Dr. Know.

"It is with regret that Dead Kennedys must inform their fans that Brandon Cruz is exiting the band,” said Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray. "Obviously we owe Brandon much respect and a ton of gratitude for his years with the band at a very difficult time. However, as much as we will miss Brandon, we are ecstatic to announce that Jeff Penalty is joining the band. Dead Kennedys fans will not be disappointed when they hear the new line-up live, I can assure you.”

“While I really enjoyed my time in Dead Kennedys, I felt I needed to spend more time with my own family” said Brandon Cruz, “Touring with the band, I got to visit some great countries and meet some extraordinary people which made the experience all the better. I also decided that I wanted to work on some new material of my own with Dr. Know.”

06.25.03 - Dead Kennedys Earn Total Vindication In California Court of Appeals

Court Upholds Earlier Decisions of San Francisco Superior Court

Band Maintains Control of All Artistic Materials Including Back Catalog, Logo and Use of Band Name associated with Dead Kennedys

Los Angeles, Calif., & San Francisco, Calif. – Seminal punk rock band Dead Kennedys announced today that they have earned total vindication for a second time in a lawsuit filed against them by Alternative Tentacles Records.

Three judges of the California Court of Appeals ruled unanimously on June 18, 2003 that Alternative Tentacles’ appeal, No. A094272, of Superior Court case No. 998892, has been denied. Alternative Tentacles’ appeal sought to overturn more than 20 years of band history and take control of Dead Kennedys by breaking up the band partnership, known as Decay Music. The ruling means that band members East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride and D. H. Peligro will continue to maintain the band’s two decade old partnership with all four members, including Jello Biafra, sharing equally in ownership and control of the bands’ creative works.

The ruling also upholds an earlier court decision at a jury trial by the San Francisco Superior Court in May 2000. Alternative Tentacles was convicted of knowingly and willingly committing fraudulent acts against Dead Kennedys by withholding monies administered by the independent record label. The jury awarded the band compensatory and punitive damages totaling more than $200,000. Alternative Tentacles did not dispute that they acted deceptively in their appeal.

"We’ve been dragged through courts for over five years and it's really exciting that the justice system worked the way it's supposed to in this case,” said Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray. "This ruling by the appellate court clearly says that Dead Kennedys and Decay Music are a full partnership. From the beginning of this ordeal in October 1998, neither Klaus, D.H. nor myself wanted to go to court to settle something that should have been handled reasonably between us. We are relieved that a jury of twelve and all of the judges recognized the truth.”

“Unfortunately, legal miscalculations and media manipulations caused several costly and very public lawsuits, just to settle something we knew the outcome of all along,” said Dead Kennedys bassist Klaus Flouride. “The one thing that most people misunderstood about our struggle for control of the very recordings we helped create was simply that we wanted Alternative Tentacles to recognize our vote in how we wanted our music released. No one seemed to understand that by Dead Kennedys and Decay Music controlling our own catalog, Jello still gets 100% of his record royalties and his music publishing, which is exactly what he is entitled to. We just wanted an equal say in all matters that pertained to the band.”

“The Dead Kennedys were always about honesty, fairness and standing up for the little guy against all odds,” said drummer D.H. Peligro. “This ruling proves that Dead Kennedys still stand for the very same thing.”

The denial by the Appellate Court of Alternative Tentacles’ appeal means that Dead Kennedys members East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, D.H. Peligro, along with Jello Biafra, will continue to maintain full control of all artistic materials pertaining to the Dead Kennedys via the Decay Music partnership, of which Biafra is still a full voting member.

Since taking control of the Dead Kennedys catalog following the trial court’s judgment in January 2001, the band has remastered and reissued their entire back catalog on both CD and vinyl. The band has also released their first live record, MUTINY ON THE BAY, a compilation of tracks recorded from 1982-1986 on Manifesto Records as well as the Target Video, DEAD KENNEDYS - EARLY YEARS LIVE DVD via Music Video Distributors. A new DVD, DEAD KENNEDYS, IN GOD WE TRUST, INC. - THE LOST TAPES is set for release on July 22, 2003 from MVD. A new live recording from 1979 will be released on CD from Manifesto Records in late 2003/early 2004. Since reissuing the band’s catalog in 2001 with superior, remastered sound and original artwork, Dead Kennedys’ catalog continues to sell more CDs than they did on the band’s previous label.

03.26.03 - Dead Kennedys Respond to Irresponsible "Pro War" Postings on the Internet

Band Firmly States they Do Not Support the War in Iraq

It has come to the attention of Dead Kennedys band members East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, D.H. Peligro and Brandon Cruz that there has been an irresponsible and baseless posting on a website that insinuates that they are in support of the War in Iraq. For the record, Dead Kennedys want their fans to know that they are opposed to Imperialist aggression on the part of the United States and British governments in the Middle East. To be more blunt: There is no member of Dead Kennedys who supports George W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq, nor have they ever supported violence as a means to an end. Dead Kennedys also want everyone to know they are concerned for the personnel stationed in Iraq and express hope that they will return to America soon.

Furthermore, Dead Kennedys would like to respond to the same posting that erroneously states that at a Dead Kennedys show on February 16, 2002, in Norfolk, Virginia, band members said they supported the United States occupation of Afghanistan. Once again, Dead Kennedys did not make that statement and believe that the individual who deliberately made this false claim is very much consumed by hate and prejudice. Again, Dead Kennedys would like their fans to know that this claim is totally baseless and are simply the rantings of irresponsible individual.

Lastly, Dead Kennedys would like to state that they feel saddened to have to even respond to the McCarthy-like smear tactics of a desperate person who allows such misinformation a place on his website to masquerade as fact. "Don’t believe everything you read," is a mantra that Dead Kennedy hope all their fans can subscribe to. The band hopes their fans recognize that they must question authority - be it a superpower, the news media, a personality or a record label.

02.05.03 - Dead Kennedys Announce Extensive European and Japanese Tours

Tour Dates Include First-Ever Stops in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Tokyo

Los Angeles, Calif., & San Francisco, Calif., (February 4, 2003) - The Dead Kennedys announced today that they are touring extensively in both Europe and Japan from February to May in 2003. Dates for the tour are still being finalized but confirmed dates include first ever stops in Japan and Russia. Additional dates include stops in Italy, Czech Republic, and Hungary as well as others. This will be the band's second trip to Europe since they reformed in 2001.

"The popularity of Dead Kennedys outside North America is absolutely staggering to us," said Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray. "We toured Europe in Summer 2002 and we're ecstatic to find out that promoters and venues are booking us again this year in even bigger venues than before. Obviously the band is excited to play our first-ever shows in Japan and Russia. It seems only fitting that the Dead Kennedy's message gets heard in the former Soviet Union and throughout Eastern Europe."

Called "one of the most popular and important American hardcore punk bands of the late seventies/early eighties" by the Rough Guide to Rock, Dead Kennedys band members include East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, and D.H. Peligro along with Brandon Cruz. Recently the band announced that sales of their back catalog have jumped 33% over the previous year and have begun reissuing their entire back catalog on vinyl. A new CD, "MUTINY ON THE BAY," was released in 2001 and includes live material from 1982-1986.
